Frency's Restauarants

You are at a beach, and you should not be deprived of the privilege of walking around in cover-ups or shorts. Walk into any of the Frenchy's Restaurants wearing your beach attire, and you won't get any glares. Fancy in its own cool way, the saga of Frenchy's Restaurants started decades ago. In 1981, when the concept of bringing great seafood to the tables by the Clearwater beachside hit a Canadian gentleman, Mike Preston, the Original Café on Baymont Street was born. Its popularity eventually gave way to the opening of the other three members of the Frenchy's Restaurants chain.

Original Café, Saltwater Café, Rockaway Grill and South Beach Café are the four well-liked seafood places of the Tampa Bay area. All a part of Frenchy's chain of restaurants, these beachside eating places have one thing in common - fresh seafood. Frenchy's boast loud and clear about their fresh-caught fishes and crabs. Their Seafood Company makes it all possible with a fleet of commercial shipping boats setting out to sail daily for some sea hunting. You can savor the taste of never-frozen seafood in every entrée on their menu list.

Original Café's signature dishes are a favorite among the regulars. Shrimp Sandwich, Super Seafood Gumbo, Boiled Shrimp, Cheeseburger and Smoked Fish Spread are some of the mouth-watering stuff at this café. Not to forget, the locally renowned Super Grouper Sandwich is a must if you are visiting Original Café. If you long for a dessert after a nice meal, choose from their special Fried Oreos or Homemade Key Lime Pie.

Opened just eight years after the Original Café, Saltwater Café carries the same fun and casual spirit in its dining ambiance. With almost a similar menu, Saltwater Café offers a wide range of delectable seafood items. You'll find the "famous" Grouper Sandwich here as well. Choose from indoor or outdoor seating, or even better, patio seating and take pleasure in anything from Buffalo Shrimp, Oysters, Baked Octopus, Clam Chowder and their original Grouper Rueben. You can also treat yourself to the bar for your favorite drink in a less-crowded and relaxed atmosphere.

If live music and great view is on your mind, Rockaway Grill is the choice among all four of the restaurants. Frenchy's largest setting, opened in 1991, Rockaway Grill gives its diners great Gulf views while feasting on their favorite dishes. She Crab Soup and Tropical Walnut Chicken Salad have come to become the most sought-after dishes here. Apparently different in terms of ambiance from its sister restaurants, Rockaway Grill gives you a chance to shake a leg to some live music while sipping some tropical drinks and cold beer.

South Beach Café is the most recent addition to the Frenchy's family. As the name suggests, located on the south of Clearwater Beach, this place offers diners a chance to do some sunset watching in an open air seating place. Offering some of the same dishes as other Frenchy's restaurants, South Beach Café gives you the best of open tropical beach bar atmosphere.

Over the years, Frenchy's restaurants have become a popular dining spot in Clearwater. Many of their customers are regulars while others are first-timers coming in with all the curiosity. Since prior reservations are not made here, immediate seating is something that should be least expected. Many times, however, the food compensates perfectly for the wait. For locals, parking is another trouble issue. Frenchy's restaurants are noisy and crowded during tourist seasons; think twice if that's something you don't want for your dining experience. And in case, you are bringing along friends who are not into seafood, the vegetarian menu is limited.
