Caretta on the Gulf
Taking its name from a species of large loggerhead turtles, Caretta on the Gulf sits aptly on the white-sands of Clearwater Beach overlooking warm and far-reaching waters of the Gulf.
Contemporary American cuisine is the forte of this restaurant. What makes their strong point even stronger is the group of expert and creative chefs onboard. The restaurant menu is largely American choice of dishes with subtle, yet mouth-watering, hues of South American, Caribbean and other international inspirations. The simplest dish is made into an attention-grabbing, delectable feast. Lemongrass and edamane, glass noodles and dash of Thai hot sauce mixed with the talent of Caretta chefs is enough to make any thing you order on the menu a treat worth trying.
For starters, try their Caretta Cobb Salad prepared with bacon, blue cheese, tomato, red onion, egg and buttermilk-tarragon dressing. For your taste, you can make this salad even better by adding grilled chicken, grilled shrimp or calamari. If the Cobb Salad doesn't sound like something that will make you visit this place, there's a whole lot going on at Caretta that words can't describe unless your taste buds get a chance at them.
Their Chicken and Andouille Gumbo served with jasmine rice is a pleasure and so is their Green Tea Poached Chicken adorned with pea shoots, crisp wontons and peanut dressing. Caretta also has a list of sandwiches on their menu for people who are not in the mood for trying exhaustive delicacies. Caretta Club Sandwich, Smoked Ahi Tuna Melt and All Natural Angus Beef Burger are offered with choice of mixed greens, fresh fruit or fries.
If you are heading there for lunch, their limited, but tempting, entrees are sure to leave you with words of appreciation. For lunch, select from their Churrasco Steak, Seared Grouper, Linguini and Clams, and Smoked Chicken Carbonara. Caretta's executive chef, David Thomas, is a store of talent, and you can speak the same when you try their even wider range of dinner entrees. Their Slow Baked Salmon is put to the table with baby bok choy, toasted couscous and sweet corn pudding. Seafood menu is great and also includes Szechuan Prawn, Pan Seared Grouper, fried fish and oysters. Some roasted pepper and a union of zest of lime and fragrance of yuzu (a tart Asian fruit) make up for the unique flavor of Florida Snapper Ceviche.
For Sushi lovers, this place is almost like heaven serving wide range of sushi rolls, meant for both vegetarians and seafood fans. Every Monday and Tuesday you can join for some sushi treats at Caretta's Sunset Sushi Buffet featuring Ceviche, California Rolls, Salmon Rolls, Veggie Rolls, Spicy Tuna Rolls and a lot more. A Sunday Brunch every week is also something to look out for at Caretta on the Gulf.
People at Caretta would love to make your dining experience even more special as they share their extensive knowledge about wines. End it all with a great dessert menu. Warm chocolate cake, pumpkin cheesecake, caramelized banana pillow and a brownie sundae are all prepared carefully to make you leave satisfied.
